Get ready for the next semester with a clean Canvas. When a new semester is closing in the administration will add new courses for the upcoming semester. Often a lot of Canvas rooms will be added you will never need. This guide will help you clean up your front page, so you can easily access the courses you need.

This guide will provide two essential tips to managing your Canvas courses:
- Using the “Favorite” feature
- Renaming courses with semester number and course name
Choosing the courses to display

Visit “All courses” to find a complete list of the courses you have been assigned on Canvas.
Here you can star/favorite the courses that you want to display at your Canvas frontpage. It is also possible to unstar courses that you no longer need or are completed.
Be aware that multiple Canvas rooms can exist for a course at CBS. These will each have a different course type. You will always need to keep the ones with LA. Some courses utilize X_ and it should therefore be starred, but it is not very often and therefore they can typically be hidden as well. Ask the teacher if they will be utilizing these rooms.
You will also often be added to courses such as “How to Uni” or other information courses. These can be unstarred without issues.
You will not delete any courses by unstarring them and they will always be under “All courses”.
On this page you can also see the custom name that you will now learn to create.
Giving your courses a new name
Often courses have long names on Canvas. It can therefore help you to give it a shorter name and include the semester number of the course.
As shown in the picture you can press the three vertical dots in the top right of a specific course. Afterwards you can give it a “Nickname”.
We recommend the structure: Semester Number. Course Name. As you can see in the example this is a forth semester course that has been shortened to Business Models. You can also use abbreviations for the course. Choose whatever makes the most sense to you.
